Yoga and Meditation
Yoga Classes
All yoga classes contain a mix of Yin and Hatha Yoga practices in addition to breathwork and meditation.
Yin Yoga is a slower paced relaxation and deep stretch yoga class for those who want to start a new practice or enhance their current practice. Gentle releasing yoga combined with breathing techniques can be very good for those with past or present medical concerns, injury or illness. Yin Yoga is a way to open the body through passive stretching and breathing in relaxing postures. This type of yoga class generally has fewer postures that are held for more extended periods. We often incorporate breathwork or mindful visualizations and may use props such as blocks, bolsters and straps. This practice works well for those seeking deeper relaxation or stress relief.
Hatha Yoga is a set of postures (known as asanas) that are combined in sequences designed to bring the boy and mind into alignment. The postures support opening the many energy channels in the body, especially enhancing the free flow of energy through the spine. Hatha is translated as “ha” meaning “sun” and “tha” meaning “moon”. You may imagine the relation to the Yin/Yang symbol, as Hatha is focused on balancing the masculine (active, hot, sun) with the feminine (receptive, cool, moon) aspects and energies within all of us. Hatha Yoga enables the practitioner to better create balance as we develop both strength and flexibility. Hatha asanas encourage the practitioner to balance effort and surrender in each pose. Hatha Yoga has proven to be a powerful tool for those seeking self-transformation. Hatha incorporates breathing practices (prawnayama), which helps to still distractions and fluctuations of the mind, cultivating more presence in each moment and movement
Morning Mindful Meditation and Movement (MMMM)
Do you want to be an early bird? Early morning is a great time to be in nature surrounded by the trees and the sounds of the wild. This is a rare opportunity to start the day with a practice of gratitude, mindful meditation, and gentle movement to help your intentions take shape. This in-person class will be held outside when the weather is permitting during the Summer and Fall months (May through October). Plan to arrive and settle in anytime between 8:15 AM and 8:30 AM with class from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. Experience the connection to neighbors and our shared environment while forming a greater connection with yourself. New students and beginners are welcome!
Some simple Yin and Hatha yoga will be incorporated as a fun way for newcomers to try yoga practice with the guidance of a certified yoga instructor.
Mindful Meditation
Meditation is an ancient practice of contemplation or reflection that over time enables practitioners to reach more heightened levels of awareness. Meditation has proven to create a sense of inner calm, while allowing for non-judgmental observation of our thoughts and belief patterns.
This practice teaches the student to become more observant and adaptive, and less reactive or emotionally triggered, by events, changes, or perceived challenges in life. As our minds become more centered in the present, meditation opens the space for reflection, introspection, and better insights and understanding of the authentic self. This practice can be taught individually or woven into the yoga classes.
