Reiki Massage
Reiki is a type of energy healing. The word “Reiki” comes from the Japanese words “rei” (universal) and “ki” (life energy). Reiki emerged in Japan in the late 1800’s and involves the transfer of universal energy through the practitioner to recipient. Reiki is an interaction with the energy fields around the body and it has been used for centuries in various forms. Energy can stagnate or become blocked in the body when there has been physical injury or even emotional pain that has not been released.
Reiki Massage enables the flow of energy and remove blocks similar to the concepts of acupuncture and acupressure. Improving the flow of energy around and within the body can also enable relaxation, reduce pain, speed healing, and improve the overall sense of wellbeing.
Some hospitals in America and Europe now offer Reiki, but insurance rarely covers it.
What to expect: It’s important to note that every persons experience is unique and it’s best to come with an open mind. Often clients will describe the feeling of warmth being transferred during the session, some will enter the delta or theta state of consciousness and describe seeing colors, symbols, or images from the past in a semi-dreamlike state. The treatment may bring up stored memories or experiences that may be calling for attention and release. Sometimes people describe feeling more relaxed while others feel more energized afterward. Often clients describe an immediate improvement in pain levels or symptoms while other people will describe shifts in thinking, clarity, or energy days after the treatment rather than right away.
